The big picture
The Leader 101 Course is about cultivating and practicing the habits that characterize highly effective spiritual leaders.
This month, we are focusing our attention on cultivating (growing the capacity for): Joy.
Why we start with joy. Leadership in any area is difficult. (This includes parenting!) There will be setbacks. People will disappoint you. The Enemy will assault your heart. Unless you are cultivating a growing capacity for joy, you will be tempted to give up. The good news is: “The joy of the Lord is our strength”!
The dialogue of joy. The dialogue of joy involves two simple practices.
- First, daily identifying at least three things I’m grateful for. My delight in God. Ann Voskamp’s video below will help with this.
- Second, listen daily for “the voice of the One who says good things about me”. (Henry Nouwen) God’s delight in me.
Our mentor this month is Ann Voskamp, author of One Thousand Gifts. Watch until… Watch her video below (click on the picture). Pay attention to when the Coach (the Holy Spirit) stops you. Stop the video and dialogue (journal) about the idea or concept where the Lord stopped you, what He wants to talk to you about. Repeat the process the next day. Take your time with this. Share what He is teaching you with your CO2 partner, your house church and your Leader Team.
